A New Day for America

Between January 1 and today, January 20, 2021, it felt like time moved at a snail's pace. Did it for you? Did you dread the damage Trump would do on his way out the door? He did plenty of that on January 6.
I feel new hope for America, a country with a lot of work to unify once again, fight and eliminate white supremacist terrorism, and provide equal footing to everyone. It seems like such a tall order.
If Americans work with organizations that fight against white supremacy, donating time and money, we can overcome the racist policies of Donald Trump, Steve Bannon, and Stephen Miller. I added a new page to this blog that contains a list of organizations you can support to fight racism.
A primary issue is that President Biden needs to reunite the children at the border with their parents. The work for this needs to start ASAP. The psychological damage done to these young minds is prosecutable, IMNSHO. My heart hurts for these babies kept in cages, sexually abused, and not knowing a loving touch by their caregivers. The President is already taking action to restore the DACA program. President Biden, get those kids out of the cages, permanently!
Of equal importance is to bring the pandemic under control. Biden must overturn all of the horrid policies Trump either did or did not put in place. Most critical on this list is to get supplies to hospitals and front-line workers taking care of COVID patients. Vaccinating the population is equally as foremost to make Americans safe. It appears that on Biden's second day in office he is doing just that.
Then, of course, is the restoration of climate web pages on the EPA's website that Trump erased and obscured. Biden signed an executive order today that rejoins the U.S. to the Paris climate accord, which takes 30 days to become final. Other good news is that Biden canceled the Keystone XL pipeline and reviewed more than 100 Trump actions on the environment. After studying those actions, the hope is that most, if not all, will be reversed.
CNN has a full list of executive actions Biden signed today.
Another question is whether Republicans in Congress will continue their obstructionist policies to prevent the people's work from being done. We already know what a hypocrite Mitch McConnell is. He speaks out of both sides of his mouth. Can Senator Schumer and other Democrat leaders override McConnell's power and obstruct his anti-American agenda? Only time will tell.
Speaking of Congress, I believe that preventing Donald Trump from ever holding office again is an imperative that the Senate must address by having an impeachment trial. That man must never grab the reins of power again in this country.
I also pray that the Senate censure and expel Ted Cruz and Josh Hawley. Those two worked hard to overthrow democracy and must not be rewarded with their continued presence as senators. Will the Democrats do that? I want to have faith that it will happen but don't have much hope. What will Nancy Pelosi do in the House to the 140 (or is it 127?) representatives who also voted against democracy. Do you know?
As President Biden said, our democracy prevailed. For now, we know he is moving forward to support all Americans. Will Republicans join the progress or continue to obstruct and thwart Democrats? I'll be watching closely, so follow this blog!
